Yellow Crowned Night Heron from the Everglades

We returned today from a one week trip to the Everglades. This was our third year seeking out the beautiful birds. Florida had an usual amount of rain this past year so many of the water levels were too high for the wading birds. We were quite shocked when we first arrived because there were NO birds in the usual spots where we would usually see hundreds! We kept searching and eventually found some. To top it off we both ended up with a terrible flu for the entire trip. Thank goodness for Advil which got us through a few hours each day. What a week. So glad to be home. Still feeling pretty awful. Probably not returning next year. Here are a few shots of a yellow crowned night heron we spotted yesterday on Sanibel Island.
